Specific needs

Historic customer of OMC, of the paper sector, sent us the following requests from Poland.

 

1 – Treat the water of the Odra river, characterised by many suspended solids and high hardness, bringing it to a specific quality, suitable for the production of TISSUE paper.

2 – Biological treatment of waste waters coming from the production process, in order to be discharged on the surface as set forth by applicable laws.

 

In view of the specific requests, OMC began to operate to solve the issues, involving its process engineers and presenting solutions to the Customer; activities began after acquiring the order.

Concrete solutions

1 – With regards to primary waters (river), once the collecting pipe is installed in the river, the water (270 m3/h) reaches, through underground pipes, a rotating sieve and from this, a dissolved air floater where, with suitable chemical dosing, suspended solids and any clayey residues (turbidity) contained in the water are removed through floatation. Then, the water is sent to self-cleaning sand filters with the purpose to remove residual suspended solids and afterwards is refined through two pressure water softeners to reduce the water hardness within the requested parameters. Hence, the paper mill water supply is 230 m3/h in compliance with the requested specifications.

 

2 – Waste waters coming from paper production; in this case, we designed a traditional biological active sludge system consisting of a dissolved air floater, as primary, with the due dosing of chemical products to remove the suspended solids contained in the water. Afterwards waters are conveyed to an active sludge oxidation tank properly sized, in which, in order to produce air bubbles, our well-proven aeration system WAM (WATER AIR MIXING) is applied. Once the pollutants COD and BOD are removed, sludges are produced which are separated from the water through a second dissolved air floater while waters are discharged in the river. The excess sludge is separated and mixed with the previously produced primary sludge, dewatered through a Centrifuge and then conveyed to landfill as special waste.
